1885 Indian Historian R D Banerjee was born

Noted Indian historian R D Banerjee is born in Berhampore, West Bengal, India. Mostly known as the discoverer of Mohenjo-Daro, principal state of Harappan civilization.

1892; Indian Politician and lawyer, R T Rajan is boron

Rajan was born in Uthamapalayam and educated at The Leys School, Cambridge and Jesus College, Oxford. Rajan graduated in history and law and practiced as an advocate for some time before joining the Justice Party. Rajan was elected to the Madras Legislative Council as a Justice Party candidate in 1920 and served as a legislator till his defeat in 1937.

Space shuttle Columbia is launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. It was the first reusable manned spacecraft to travel into space.
