Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre or the Amritsar massacre is one of the bloodiest events in which 400 Indians, including children, elderly and women were killed by the British Indian Army and thousands of people were injured in this event. The acting colonel General Reginald Dyer ordered troops to fire on the peaceful protesters assembled at the Jallianwala Bagh.

Maliaka Vaz

National Geographic explorer, Adventure sports Athlete, Wildlife presenter and Filmmaker, Malaika Vaz took birth in Saligao, Goa on this day. Malaika is the only international filmmaker to be awarded the National Geographic ROAR Talent bursary for Wild screen Festival in 2016.

Chandula Shah

Famous Indian Film director Chandula Shah is born in Jamnagar, Gujrat on April 1898. He founded Ranjit Studio in 1929

1: Handel’s “Messiah” premieres in Dublin

Nowadays, everybody is familiar with sacred music played at Christmas time. But how many of us know that back in 1742, the tradition didn’t even exist. Messiah received its first world premiere on April 13, 1742, that too at the Christmas time of lent in the concert hall of Dublin, Ireland.

2: Sidney Poitier won the Oscar for Best Actor   

Actors around the globe dream about the Academy awards, what if one holds the record of the first awardee from the continent. It indeed is a pride for him or her. Sidney Poitier was the first actor from the Africa to win the academy’s Best Actor award for ‘Lilies of the Field’ on April 13, 1964.

3: The Nonaggression pact

Who among us is not familiar with the horrifying pictures and stories of World War II, of course, all of us. On this day 1941, Japan and USSR signed the non-aggression pact during the war to halt the destruction caused by the war.

4:  Hitler bluffed

Hitler, the world calls him the most brutal dictator and destructor in world history. But for Germany, he was a pride back then. On April 13, 1945, Hitler bluffed from his underground bunker as Russians advance and atrocities continue.

5: Soviets admit to Katyn Massacre of World war II

They say everything is fair in love and war and Russians proved the saying. On this day the Soviet government admitted officially the killing of 5,000 polish military officers and burying them in mass graves in the forests of Katyn.

6:  Mass murderer, Christopher Wilder killed himself

On this day in 1984, Wilder, the then most wanted criminal in FBI’s list shot himself as the police apprehended him in North Hampshire. He was facing charges of killing 11 young women.

7: Surrender of union forces at Fort Sumter

On this day the Union forces surrender Fort Sumter in South Charleston Harbor. This happened after a 33-hour bombardment by Confederate Cannons.
