2 days after the US Senate Voted 82 to 6 votes to declare war against Germany. The US House of Representatives endorsed the declaration by a vote of 373 to 50 and the US officially entered into the World War I.

1862 The Battle of Shiloh Begins

The Battle of Shiloh Begins: A civil war broke out in West as the armies of Union General of Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston collides at Shiloh, near Pittsburg. The battle of Shiloh became one of the bloodiest engagement of the war. The casualty was so high it shook the North and South alike.

1909 Robert Peary almost reaches the North Pole

American explorer Robert Peary accomplishes a long-elusive dream. Peary along with assistant Mathew Henson and four Eskimos reached what the thought to be the North Pole. Decades after his death, a navigation error in his travel surfaced, placing the expedition short of few miles away from its destination.

1941 Germany invades Yugoslavia and Greece

The German Airforce launches Operation Castigo, the bombing of Belgrade. 24 divisions and 1200 tanks entered Greece. The attack on Yugoslavia was swift and brutal there were 17000 deaths- the largest number of deaths in a single day since the start of the war.

1841 John Tyler became 10th President

Two days after the death of William Harrison 9th President of the US, who died within a month of Presidentship. However, after his untimely exit, John Tyler was thrusted into the role of president. He sworn in as the 10th president of the US. In 1841 Tyler was elected as vice president for Willian Harrison.

1832 Black Hawk War begins

To resist the growing number of settlers of Anglo settlers on Tribal lands, the Sauk warrior Black Hawk was drawn into a war with the United States.

1931 Bengali Actress Suchitra sen was born

Suchitra Sen, a Bengali superstar was born. Her father was a headmaster in a school in the Pabna district of Bangladesh.

1606 Khusroo Mirza, prince and his father rebelled and fled from Agra. Later he was captured at Shahpur ferry on the river Chenab

1992

Nagpur edition of a Marathi Newspaper ‘Loksatta’ was started. Loksatta had the highest circulation without any parallel in Marathi at that time.
