2009 – Explosion in a coal mine
On August 10, 2009, an explosion in a coal mine in Handlova, Slovakia due to gases ignited as the miners fought off a fire in the mine. It killed 20 workers and 9 were injured.
2003 – Okinawa Urban Monorail opened
On August 10, 2003, The Okinawa Urban Monorail was opened in Naha, Okinawa to connect Naha Airport to the rest of the city and provide a means of public transportation besides the inefficient bus system.
