2000 – Kursk Submarine Disaster

On August 12, 2000, The Russian Navy submarine Kursk exploded and sank in the Barents Sea during a military exercise that killed the entire crew of 118 people.

1990 – U.S.A. Tyrannosaurus Rex / Sue

On August 12, 1990, the skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex was discovered by Sue Hendrickson in Cheyenne River Indian Reservation, South Dakota.

1985 – Japan Plane Crash

On August 12, 1985, Japan Airlines Boeing 747 Flight 123 crashed into Mount Osutaka with the loss of 505 passengers and 15 crew members.

1981 – First Personal Computer

On August 12, 1981, IBM introduces its first Personal Computer known as IBM Model 5150 with advanced PC & PC-DOS version 1.0.

1908 – First Model T Car 

On August 12, 1908, Henry Ford’s company builds the first Model T car. It was regarded as America’s first affordable car.

Cricketer Eddie Barlow

On August 12, 1940, Eddie Barlow, a South African cricketer was born. He was an all-rounder, popular and easily- recognizable figure.

Actor Joe Besser

Born on August 12, 1907, Joe Besser, an American actor, comedian and musician was born. He was known for his impish humour and wimpy characters. He also appeared in many television roles.

2013 – First Indian-built aircraft

On August 12, 2013, India launched its first home-built aircraft carrier, the Vikrant.

2010 – Enable access to BlackBerry

On August 12, 2010, India ordered telephone operators to allow security agencies access to BlackBerry services carried on their networks by the end of the month.

2008 – Anger and misery in Kashmir 

On August 12, 2008, Indian security forces shot dead 15 Muslim demonstrators in Kashmir amid a wave of anger against New Delhi’s control over the disputed region.

2007 – Violent week in India

On August 12, 2007, In India, suspected rebels killed 4 Hindi-speaking migrant workers and 3 more bodies were found from an earlier killing in the insurgency-wracked northeast, bringing the death toll from a week of violence to 30.
