American novelist and screenwriter were born. He has written 7 novel and many short stories.

1942 Manhattan Project commencement

 

The ‘Manhattan Project’ commences, under the direction of US General Leslie Groves. It aims to deliver an atomic bomb.

1945 Cricketer Robin Jackman

Robin Jackman, a former English cricketer was born. He was a fast bowler and useful tail-end batsman.

1868 Arica Earthquake

 

Earthquake occurred with the magnitude between 8.5–9.0 near Arica, part of southern Peru causing more than 25,000 deaths and a destructive basin wide tsunami that affected Hawaii and New Zealand.

 

1895 Actor Bert Lahr

American film actor, theatre performer, vaudevillian and comedian was born. He was well known for his quick-witted humour.

1642 Discovery of Mars

 

Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens illustrated a bright spot on Mars and discovered Martian south polar cap.

Indian civil servant, an economic historian, the writer was born. He was the translator of Ramayana and Mahabharata.

2002 Guerrilla Attack

 

In India separatist guerrillas ambushed a truck in Meghalaya state and killed more than 15 people.

 

1979 Cricketer Lisa Sthalekar

Lisa Sthalekar, Indian born former cricketer, the commentator was born. She was captain of Australia’s international women’s cricket team.

1997 Order for protection of Women

In India the Supreme Court ordered the government to come up with legislation to to protect women from sexual harassment in the workplace.

1982 Singer Ishaan Dev

 

Indian music composer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music programmer and stage performer was born. He won Best Male Playback Singer – Mirchi Music Awards South.
