2017 – Massive monsoon flooding in Mumbai

On August 30, 2017, In India police said two toddlers were among 14 people killed in Mumbai after floods caused by heavy monsoon rains destroyed homes and disrupted traffic.

2013 – First defence satellite launched

On August 30, 2013, India successfully launched its GSAT-7 .defense satellite, the first defence satellite for the country, from the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana.

2012 – Indian military helicopters collided in mid-air

On August 30, 2012, In India 9 air force personnel were killed when two Russian-designed military helicopters collided in mid-air in the western state of Gujarat.

2003 – Indian Police killed 2 suspected militants

On August 30, 2003, 2 suspected Islamic militants were killed in a battle with New Delhi police claiming to have killed Ghazi Baba, the head of the Jaish-e-Mohammed militant group, during a fierce gun battle in Srinagar.

2003 – 40 passengers plunged into the river

On August 30, 2003, in northern India a bus carrying 40 passengers plunged into a river in a remote hilly area. There was no immediate word on casualties.

2003 – Flight Crashed in Ecuador

On August 30, 2003, a Conviasa Boeing 737, operating a ferry flight from Venezuela, crashed into Illiniza Volcano in Ecuador, killing 1 passenger and both pilots on board.

2002 – Rico Linhas Aéreas Flight 4823 Crashed

On August 30, 2002, Rico Linhas Aéreas Flight 4823, a Brazilian flight, crashed on approach to Rio Branco International Airport during a rainstorm, killing 23 of the 31 people on board.

1976 – Riots during 10th Notting Hill Carnival in London

On August 30, 1976, racial tensions run high that escalated into violence and 150,000 people attending Notting Hill Carnival in London, ended in riots. More than 300 police were injured, 35 police vehicles were damaged, several shops looted and 60 people were arrested.

1974 – Bomb Explosion in Tokyo

On August 30, 1974, a powerful bomb exploded at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries headquarters in Marunouchi, Tokyo. 8 people were killed and 378 were injured.

1974 – Zagreb Train Disaster

On August 30, 1974, an express train travelling Belgrade–Dortmund derails at the main train station in Zagreb killing 153 passengers.
