2012 – NASA Mars Curiosity Rover Lands
On August 6, 2012, NASA successfully landed the Mars Curiosity Rover on Mars to collect data and explore the Gale crater on Mars as part of NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory mission (MSL).
1997 – Korean Air Flight 801 Crashed
On August 6, 1997, Korean Air Flight 801 crashed at Nimitz Hill, Guam killing 228 of 254 people on board.
1991 – Invention of the World Wide Web
On August 6, 1991, British computer scientist Timothy John Berners-Lee released files describing his idea for the World Wide Web while working at CERB, Switzerland.
1965 – Voting Rights Act of 1965 came into effect

1945 – Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima
On August 6, 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima containing more power than 12,000 tons of TNT killing an estimated 140,000 people in the first use of a nuclear weapon.

Composer Egil Kapstad
On August 6, 1940, Egil Kapstad, a Norwegian jazz pianist, composer and arranger was born. He wrote the music for more than 50 productions for theatre. He also composed for film and television drama and classical works for orchestra, choir, string quartet, and smaller ensembles.
Author Susie Taylor
On August 6, 1848, Susie Taylor, an author, army nurse and memoirist was born. She was the only African-American woman to publish a memoir of her wartime experiences in her book, “Reminiscences of My Life in Camp with the 33rd United States Colored Troops, Late 1st S.C. Volunteers”.

2010 – Damaged due to floods in India
On August 6, 2010, flash floods across a large part of Jammu and Kashmir, India that damaged 71 towns and killed at least 255 people.
2007 – Walmart-Bharti Joint Venture
On August 6, 2007, Walmart signed an agreement to start wholesale operations in India in equal partnership with Bharti Enterprises, an Indian conglomerate.
2005 – Nuclear Risk Reduction between India and Pakistan
On August 6, 2005, nuclear rivals India and Pakistan have agreed to set up a telephone hotline to prevent accidental nuclear conflict and also agreed to notify each other before testing ballistic missiles.
2001 – Erwadi Fire incident
On August 6, 2001, a fire incurred at the Moideen Badusha asylum in Erwadi, Tamil Nadu, killing 27 patients, many of who were chained to their beds.
1988 – Manihari Ghat Ferry disaster
On August 6, 1988, in the Indian state of Bihar, an overcrowded ferry carrying pilgrims across the Ganges overturned killing over 400 people in the middle of the river near Manihari Ghat (near the town Manihari)
