English awareness is obviously important in the first two tiers since you will have questions of Basic English and Grammar in tier 1 and an entire paper on English Language and Comprehension in tier 2. Also, in tier three i.e. a written, descriptive paper, if you choose to write in English, then you definitely need to have a command on the language.

Tips to prepare for SSC CGL 2019:
1. Understand the Exam Pattern and Syllabus
Before starting with any preparation, we always suggest to first see the exam pattern in detail. This will help you in two things-
a. In understanding the kind of questions that are likely to appear in your exam
b. You will be aware of what to study and what not to study. Remember, at this point, when you are preparing for the exam, you don’t have to study English, you have to prepare English and grammar from the exam point of you. Exam Pattern considering the English and grammar section
Tier 1: English and Grammar Section accounts for 25 questions of two marks each. Hence, minimum marks that English section covers are 50.

Tier 3: Tier three is about your writing skills. If you want to attempt the tier three exams in English, then you will have to work on your written English. You also need to learn the format of letter writing, story writing, diary entry etc.

Now that you know what is the exam pattern and what are you actually need to study, you have a drive out an action plan. So, here is what you need to do –
a. Start working on Grammar –For the language and comprehension section, you need to start off with the basic grammar. This will help you in doing questions like spotting the error, editing and omission etc.
b. Improve reading and Comprehension Skills – The SSC CGL exam has a good chunk dedicated to comprehension based questions. So, to attempt them all, you should be in a habit of reading fast and interpreting things differently.
c. Try to solve the previous year papers – We always suggest you go through the previous year question papers in order to figure out what will come.
