The constitutions of India have 448 articles in 25 parts 12 schedules, 5 appendices and 100 amendments. Out of these, we have shortlisted 15- 20 articles which are specifically important for the competitive exams. The first 5 articles of this list are mentioned below –

Indian constitution consists of several articles, each of that is important in different places. Here are the first 5 articles which are important specifically for Competitive Exams –
1. ARTICLE 1 : NAME AND TERRITORY OF THE UNION
· India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.
· The States and the territories thereof shall be as specified in the First Schedule.
· The territory of India shall comprise –
(a) the territories of the States
(b) the Union territories specified in the First Schedule
(c) such other territories as may be acquired.
2. ARTICLE 14 : EQUALITY BEFORE LAW
The State shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India.
3. ARTICLE 16: EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY IN MATTERS OF PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT
There shall be equality of opportunity for all citizens in matters relating to employment or appointment to any office under the State. No citizen shall, on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, descent, place of birth, residence or any of them, be ineligible for, or discriminated against in respect of, any employment or office under the State. This law prohibits class, race, caste or any other kind of discrimination.
4. ARTICLE 17 : ABOLITION OF UNTOUCHABILITY
“Untouchability” is abolished and its practice in any form is forbidden. The enforcement of any disability arising out of ‘Untouchability’ shall be an offence punishable in accordance with law.
5. ARTICLE 19: PROTECTION OF CERTAIN RIGHTS REGARDING FREEDOM OF SPEECH, ETC.
Article 19 talks about the Right to freedom of Speech and Expression and restrictions to free speech. It gives right to free speech to every individual. Main articles under this are Article 19 (1) a and 19 (2). Article 19 (1) tells about the liberty to access free speech and ARTICLE 19 (2) lays the restrictions for article 19 (1) which includes areas like defamation, integrity of state, sovereignty, security, friendly relations with other countries etc.
