1947, Vasco Da Gama travelled to India

On 8 July 1497, Vasco Da Gama came to India; he was a Portuguese explorer and the first European to reach India by sea. Da Gama’s discovery of the sea route to India opened various challenges and opportunities which gave rise to globalization and trade of goods and services.

1859, King Charles accedes to the throne of Sweden-Norway

On July 8, 1859, Charles acceded to the throne, he was an intelligent and artistically inclined ruler much liked in both kingdoms. He strived to strengthen the bond between Sweden and Norway as well, but his efforts were undermined by the Norwegian parliament.

1937, Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan sign the “Treaty of Saadabad”

On July 08, 1937, Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan signed a nonaggression pact which lasted for five years. The treaty was signed by the Afghan King Mohammad Zahir Shah in Tehran’s Saadabad Palace.

On July 08, 1968, the Chrysler wildcat strike began in Michigan which was a strike between the African and Americans working for DODGE together. Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement (DRUM) was the organization which employed both Africans and Americans.

On July 08, 1997, a bomb exploded in the Bhatinda City of Punjab. The bomb was planted in a local train where more than forty casualties were reported.

2006, 15 Killed, Bus fell in the river

On July 08, 2006, 15 killed as the bus lost its control and plunged in the gorge near Bhagirathi River.

Former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar died due to blood illness.

On July 08, 2007, Chandra Shekhar Singh who served as the Eighth Prime Minister of India died due to blood illness. Chandra Shekhar formed a minority party named Janta Dal. Chandra Shekhar served from Nov 1990-June 1991.
