A military exercise is not actual combat, it is an exercise meant for training or exploring warfare methods. It also employs the use of military resources and tests their working and consequences.
When this is done in between two countries, it allows for better coordination in case of an attack and also allows to build relationships. It is also seen as a way to show the military strength of a country.
These are a few major joint military exercises in which India took part in 2019.
