Born May 20, 1955, Chembolu Seetharama Sastry is an Indian poet and lyricist known for his works exclusively in Telugu cinema, and Telugu theatre. He is more famous by the name Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry. He has gathered eleven state Nandi Awards and four Filmfare Awards for his lyrics.

Indian Woman Cricketer

Born on May 20, 1977, Anjum Chopra is an Indian Cricketer. She started playing cricket at the age of 9. Anjum made her one-day international cricket debut on February 12, 1995, at the age of 17. Anjum has played 12 test and 116 ODI’s.

This day in 1677, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj conquered the fort of Jingi.

1498 Vasco de Gama Reached India

On May 20, 1498, Vasco Da Gama, Portuguese explorer, was the first European to reach India through the Atlantic Ocean. He anchored at Calicut Malabar coast.

1506 Christopher Columbus died

Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus died on this day. He was from Valladolid, Italy. The first European to set foot on America’s lands since Vikings settled in newfound lands in 10th century. Columbus has explored West Indies, South America, and Central America.

1862, Lincoln signs the Homestead Act

On May 20, 1862, American President Abraham Lincoln signed the Homeland Act, which allowed government land to small farmers. As per the act, any person, head of a family can try his hand at farming for 5 years on the 160 acres of land.

1956 USA tested Hydrogen bomb

On May 20, 1956, United States dropped Hydrogen bomb over the island of Namu, in the Bikini Atoll. The test was successful for the improved hydrogen bomb that it is, a viable airborne weapon.

1969 battle of “Hamburger Hill”

After 10 days of blood battle, the battle of Hamburger Hill ended on May 20, 1969, after 10 days of the battle Hill 397 in Vietnam was captured by the American and Vietnamese troops.
