Politician Vinayak Damodar Savarkar born

Born on May 28, 1883, in Bhagur, Maharashtra, Savakvar was an Indian Politician. He formulated the Hindutva philosophy in India. He and his brother founded a secret society called the Abhinav Bharat Society. Savarkar was sentenced to imprisonment for 50 years for his involvement in Indian revolutionary forces and was sent to jail in the Andaman and Nicobar. While in prison Savarkar wrote many mercy petitions to the British government in return to serve the British interests.

Actor N. T. Rama Rao born

Born on May 28, 1923, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR, was an Indian actor, producer, director, editor and politician. He has served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms. N.T. Rao, has won three National Film Awards and was also honored Rashtrapati Award.

French Indian war

On May 28, 1754, Virginia Militia defeated the French scouting party in Southwestern Pennsylvania. 10 soldiers from Fort Duquesne were killed and 21 were taken as prisoners in a surprise attack by the Militia. The Virginia Regiment was formed in 1754 by Virginia’s Royal Governor, Robert Dinwiddie, as a provincial corps. The regiment served in the French and Indian War.

1918 US victory at Cantigny

An Allied force in which 4000 American troops were a part captured the village of Cantigny from Germany. Within 72 hours the German army made 7 counter attacks to recapture the village but failed. Almost 1000 American soldiers died defending the village.

1937 Volkswagen found

On May 28, 1937, the German government formed a state-owned automobile company and has been named as Gesellschaft Zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH. Later that year its name was changed as Volkswagenwerk, or “The People’s Car Company.”

1964 Palestinian Liberation Organization Formed

On May 28, 1764, the Palestinian Liberation Organisation was formed and in February 1969. Yasir Arafat was elected as its leader.

1991 (EPRDF) took over the Ethiopia Capital

After 17 years of Marxist rule in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) took control of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. On May 28, 1991, the EPRDF forces with Tanks entered Addis Ababa without any opposition. Soon, after the transitional government was formed.

2010 Ahmadiyya mosque attacked in Pakistan

On May 28, 2010, seven terrorists equipped with guns, grenades and suicidal vests attacked two Ahmadiyya mosques in Lahore, Pakistan. During the attack, 94 people were killed and 120 got injured.
