Mariner 9 was launched to gather the scientific information on Mars, during its exploration Mariner 9 sent more than 7000 picture of the Mars and gathered a lot of information through its infrared cameras and other technological gears. For almost a year, Mariner 9 circled Mars twice a day gathering all the information that was required.

Author Gopi Krishna

Born on May 30, 1903 in a village outside Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Gopi Krishna was a yogi, mystic, teacher, social reformer and writer. He was one of the first to popularize the concept of Kundalini among Western readers and his writings have influenced a lot of Western interest in kundalini yoga.

1806 Andrew Jackson kills Charles Dickinson

On May 30, 1806, Charles Dickinson was killed by the 7th President of the United States of America, Andrew Jackson. Dickinson accused Andrew of cheating on a horse race bet and then insulted his wife, Rachel. Jackson and Dickenson were competing horse breeder and had a lot of hatred towards each other.

 1868 Civil War dead honored on Decoration Day

On May 30, 1868, the first major Memorial Day was observed in the USA, in memory of and to honor those who have died in defending the country. This day is also known as the Decoration Day, on this day the mourners decorate the graves with flowers to honor those who died in the Civil War.

1911 first Indianapolis 500 organized

On May 30, 1911, first famous motor racing competitions was held in Indianapolis.. During the inaugural Indianapolis 500, Ray Harroun drove his single-seater Marmon Wasp to the victory. 40 cars were aligned for a 13 laps into the race. Today, it is the world’s most famous racing competition.

1913 Balkan War ended

On May 30, 1913, a peace treaty was signed between Slavic nations. 1971 Mariner 9 left for Mars

On May 30, 1971, Mariner 9 was launched to gather the scientific information on Mars. On November 13, 1971, the spacecraft entered the orbit. Mariner sent back more than 7000 pictures of Mars which helped scientists to analyze the atmosphere, topography, composition and other elements of the Red Planet.
