The Mughal Dynasty

From the early 16th till the 18th century, the North Indian region was prominently under the control of Mughals. The Mughal Dynasty is certainly the most successful dynasties existing in Medieval history. The Mughal Rule is a two centuries-long rule which was forwarded through seven generations. The father of the Mughal Dynasty was Babur.

Babur (Zahir-ud-din Muhammad)

Babur, the father of the Mughal Empire was born on February 14, 1483, in Fergana which is now in Uzbekistan. He was a successor of Tamerlane from his father’s side and Genghis Khan from his mother’s side. The meaning of the word Babur, in Persia, is Lion.

Babur’s Journey to throne and victories

  1. Babur was an 11-year-old kid when his father died in the year 1494. He ascended father’s throne and overtook the Silk Road Oasis city of Samarkhand in 1497.
  2. He lost control over Samarkand after a few years only in order to improve the control over the base.
  3. He was almost homeless by this time and roamed around Central Asia to figure out the potential lace which could help him re-establish his father’s empire.
  4. In 1504, he went towards the Hindu Kush mountain region in Afganistan.
  5. By the age of 21, he overtook Kabul and made it the base for the Mughal Empire.
  6. In the year 1521, there was unrest in Delhi Sultanate. People were not happy with the authoritative rule of Ibrahim Lodi. Babur took advantage of this internal unrest.
  7. Babur, in April 1526, launched a war against the Ibrahim Lodi’s lead Delhi Sultanate. This makes the first Battle of Panipat.
  8. The Mughal ancestors existed in Agra and thus Babur had this ideology to make Agra, the capital city.
  9. The Rajput kind, Rana Sangam of Mewar that Babur’s army has recently fought the battle of Panipat and hence, it is certainly weak. He decided to attack the so-called weak force of Babur.
  10. Babur’s army, despite being weak managed to defeat Rana Sangam’s army. Hence they concluded Mewar in 1527.

In 1530, Babur died off some sickness. Babur’s brother in law wanted to take the throne forward but Humayun, the eldest son of Babur took the throne after Babur. Babur’s rule was the establishment of this one of the biggest dynasties of Indian History. This dynasty which has 7
successors to Mughal Throne is one of the hot topics for the competitive exams. The exams like SSC MTS, SSC CGL, CHSL, UPSC etc. often have questions from the Mughal Dynasty.
