1906 – Birth Anniversary of R K Narayan

R. K. Narayan (10 October 1906 – 13 May 2001), was an Indian writer known for his work set in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi. He was a leading author of early Indian literature in English along with Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao. He is one of the best-known of the Indo-English writers. In his career, Narayan received many honors including the AC Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan, and in 1994 the Sahitya Akademi. He was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s parliament.

1964 – Death Anniversary of Guru Dutt

Guru Dutt (9 July 1925 – 10 October 1964), was an Indian movie director, producer, and actor. He made the 1950s and 1960s works of art, for example, Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, which have been incorporated among the best movies ever. He was celebrated for making expressive and masterful movies and extending its business shows. A large number of his later works draw in full houses when re-released particularly in Germany, France, and Japan.

1992 – World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is celebrated on October 10, every year all over the world. It is an international day for global mental health education and awareness against social blemish. It was initiated in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization which has almost 150 countries as its member. On this day, thousands of supporters come to celebrate this program for the attention on mental illness and its major effects on peoples’ lives worldwide. In some countries, this day is part of an awareness week, such as Mental Health Week in Australia.

2005 –  First Woman Chancellor of Germany

Angela Dorothea Merkel is a German politician and the Chancellor of Germany since 2005. She served as Leader of the Opposition from 2002 to 2005 and as Leader of the Christian Democratic Union from 2000 to 2018.  As a member of the Christian Democratic Union, she became the first female Chancellor of Germany in 2005. Angela Merkel has been widely described as the de facto leader of the European Union and the most powerful woman in the world.

 1971 – Rebuilding of London Bridge in Arizona

London Bridge was built in 1830 formerly over the River Thames in London. In 1967 the bridge was relocated to Arizona ,which is a reinforced concrete structure clad in the original masonry of the old bridge. It was purchased by Robert P. Mc Culloch from the City of London.  The bridge was transported to America to construct the present bridge in Lake Havasu City, a planned community that Culloch established in 1964 on the shore of Lake Havasu. The bridge was completed in 1971 and links an island in the Colorado River with the main part of Lake Havasu City.
