1936 – Death Anniversary of Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande

Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande was a famous Indian musicologist who took his last breath on 19 September 1936. We remember him as the writer of the first modern treatise on Hindustani Classical music. Later, his legacy was taken forward for many centuries through oral traditions.

2007- Fastest Century Record by Yuvraj Singh

11 years ago on this day, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh marked this day in Indian History by making the fastest century record. He became the second batsman, after Herschelle Gibbs, to hit six sixes in international T20IS cricket. The match was against England and the bowler was Stuart Broad.

1982 – First use of Emoticons

The first use of an emoticon came from America on September 19, 1982. The emotion icon was used by American scientist Scott E. Fahlman for the very first time. In general, emoticons are punctuation marks and letters designed in a way that expresses a person’s moods using visual methods.

1965 – Birth Anniversary of Sunita Williams

Sunita Lyn Williams is an American astronaut and was born on 19th September 1965. She formerly held the records for most spacewalks by a woman and most spacewalk time for a woman. She is also associated as a member of Expedition 14 and 15 after being a United State Navy officer.

1991- Exposure of 5000 years old Mummy

On 19 September 1991, a mummy was found on the borders of Austria and Italy. Researchers claim that the mummy was about 5000 years old and was preserved naturally in the ice of the Otztal Alps. Today, we call it Otzi the Iceman, nicknamed after the region where it was found. This natural mummy of a man lived between 3400 and 3100 BCE.

1957 – Atomic Test in Nevada

On September 19, 1957, the United States detonated a 1.7-kiloton nuclear weapon in an underground tunnel at the Nevada Test Site, a 1,375-square-mile research centre located 65 miles north of Las Vegas.

1893 – Women’s Suffrage in New Zealand

19th September 1893, plays an important role in the history of New Zealand. It was the day when public opinions took a route, leaving behind all the socio- patriarchal notions. The women’s campaign was going on by Kate Shepperd who was demanding Women’s Rights in politics. Hence on this day, it became the first nation in the world to include women in parliamentary elections.
