As per the latest notification released by the Staff Selection Commission, CHSL Tier-I Exam will be conducted from 1st July 2019 till 26th July 2019

Pattern of the Exam

SSC CHSL exam is conducted in three different phases, namely -Tier I Tier II and Tier III.

Tier – I

  • It is an MCQ based paper that is computer-based and conducted at various test centres across the country.
  • It consists of 4 sections having 25 questions each i.e. 100 questions in total.
  • It has to be covered within a time span of 60 min. Each question carries 2 marks making it a 200 marks paper. A negative marking of 0.25 is also given for every wrong answer.

Tier-I Exam Pattern is as follows:

  • Based on the normalized scoring of the candidates, a cut-off mark is assigned for each category. The normalization of scores is done using the formula published by the Commission
  • Those who score marks equal to or above the cut-off mark become eligible to appear in the Tier II Exam.

Tier -II

  • It is a descriptive paper of 100 marks for testing the writing skills of candidates in English or Hindi.
  • It includes writing an Essay of 200-250 words and a Letter or Application of about 150-200 words.
  • Total time allotted would be 60 minutes. 20 minutes extra time would be given to the candidates using a scribe.
  • The minimum qualifying marks would be 33 percent for Tier-II.
  • The marks scored in Tier II would be included for preparing merit.

Essay topics are usually based on current social, political, economic or cultural issues. For letter or application writing, official topics are usually assigned. However, it is better to be able to write letters in all types of formats.

Tier-III

Shortlisting of the Candidates for Tier-III Examination is done on the basis of their performance in Tier-I + Tier-II provided that they having scored a minimum of 33% marks in Tier-II Examination.

Tier III is either a Skill based Test or a Typing Test according to the type of post applied. Both are of qualifying nature.

Skill test is conducted for the posts of Data Entry Operators and Data Entry Operators in CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General)

Typing test is conducted for the posts of LDC/ JSA and Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant
