Understanding the main sessions of Parliament
You must have heard about monsoon session, Budget, and winter session, right? Well, there is so much that you need to know about Parliament. It is very important of General Knowledge. How does our parliament works? Here is a list of Parliament sessions that you need to know, take a look.
Summoning– The president of India summons each house of parliament to meet, the maximum gap between two sessions of parliament cannot be more than six months.
A ‘Session’– of parliament is the period spanning between the first sitting of a house and its prorogation or (dissolution in the case of the LokSabha)
Recess– The period spanning between the prorogation of a House and its reassembly in a new session is called ‘recess’.
Adjournment– Suspending the work in a sitting for a specified time, which may be hours, days or weeks.
Adjournment sine dies– Means terminating a sitting of parliament for an indefinite period when the house is adjourned without naming a day for reassembly.
Prorogation– After the business of a session is completed and the House has adjourned sine die, the president issues notification for the prorogation of the session. However, the President can also prorogue the house while in session.
Dissolution– Ends the very life of the existing House and a new House is constituted after General Elections are held. When the LokSabha has dissolved all business including bills, motions, resolutions, notices, petitions pending before it or its committees lapse.
