World Day of international justice: Know its importance 


17th July of every year is seen as World Day of International Justice or The International Criminal Justice Day. This day is observed to recognize the significance of justice, promote the rights of every individual and prevent crime to promote harmony in the world. It aims to promote International Criminal Justice and support the International Criminal Court (ICC).

History of World Day of International justice

17th July is the anniversary of “The Rome statute” introduced in 1998. The ICC was formed when 120 Countries adopted the Rome Statute.

What is the Rome Statute?

The Rome Statute, a multilateral treaty, is an agreement that leads to the formation of ICC after the approval by 120 member countries on July 1, 1998. The statute defines the functions of the courts, its structure, and its jurisdiction. In 2010, a review conference of the Rome Statute took place in Kampala (Uganda). The assembly of State Parties announced 17 July as International Criminal Justice Day.

Why do we celebrate World Day for International Justice?          

World Day of International Justice is celebrated to create global awareness among the society about Criminal Justice.  It is to highlight the importance of justice and celebrate it. The day is also marked to protect people from several crimes and warn those who affect the harmony, peace, security and well being in any manner.

World Day of International Justice 2019: What’s Special?

This international Criminal Justice Day, International Justice Court(IJC) is going to release a verdict on Kulbhusan Jadhav’s case at 6:30 PM today.

New Delhi has questioned the death penalty awarded to Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian national, by a Pakistani military court for being a “spy”. India has called the trial farcical. Earlier, New Delhi has questioned the death penalty awarded to Jadhav by a Pakistani military court for being a “spy”. He was kidnapped from Iran under the allegations of espionage and terrorism. Today, the International Court is going to announce its decision on the death sentence to Jadhav at 6:30 P.M.

Conclusion

World Day of International Justice is remarkable for the prohibition of crime. It promotes harmony and peace by enlarging. The Rome Statute is the agreement meant to create an environment of crime-free globe.
