First and second-year students of DU to be promoted without examination

Due to the prevailing conditions Delhi University is likely to promote the first- and second-year students to the next academic year without examination.


The proposal to cancel the examination has been put forth by the university in a recent meeting conducted between the senior officers of the Delhi University. Considering that it would be difficult to conduct the examination.

With the number of first-year students being higher than the number of second-year students and the total number of second-year students being higher than the number of third-year students the proposal of cancelling the examinations for the first and second-year students were made. The officials have however recommended that the examinations must be conducted for the final year students.

After the COVID-19 outbreak, the nationwide shutdown and social distancing conducting exams will be extremely risky. Keeping this in mind, it was highlighted at the meeting about conducting the examination and the risks it involves. If the proposal of promoting students is approved, then the first and second-year students will be promoted to the next academic year based on their past academic year.

The University also plans to prepone the summer vacation for the students from April 15 to May 15 in order to avoid delays in the next academic year.

The university had already postponed the examinations for the regular and correspondence students until further notice due to Covid-19 lockdown announced by the government.

Many universities in the country have postponed exams due to the corona pandemic lockdown imposed by the government to tackle the situations.
