1831, Leopold I Became King of Belgium

On July 21, 1831, Leopold I started his journey as the King of Belgium. Belgium became an independent state in 1830, and then Leopold I was elected the king by the ‘Belgian National Congress’. He accepted the office in June 1831, and his duty began on 21 July 1831.

1954, Vietnam Partition

On July 21, 1954, Vietnam was divided into 2 parts, North Vietnam and South Vietnam.

During the Indo-china war, there was a lot of lawlessness in Vietnam, and to end this chaos, the Geneva Conference was held. In  that conference, it was decided that Vietnam should be partitioned.

1969, Neil Armstrong came back to earth from the Moon

On July 21, 1969, spacecraft “The apollo” With American Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin reached back to earth safely after spending a night on the moon. The spacecraft was reached on the moon on July 20, 1969, and Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on it.

1995, Third Taiwan Pauperism Crisis

On July 21, 1995, the People Republic of China started a missile test to try the intensity of missiles in the water bodies around Taiwan. This kept going for around 9 months. PRC did this because Taiwan was trying to separate itself from the One-China policy.

2008, First president of Nepal

On July 21, 2008, Health minister Ram Baran Yadav, was elected as the first-ever President of Nepal. Nepal was declared a Republic in May 2008, and Ram Baran Yadav served as president for the next 7 years.

1883, Opening of Star Theatre Calcutta

On July 21, 1883, Star Theatre was opened in Calcutta, now known as Kolkata. 

1935, Establishment of Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangha

On July 21, 1935, Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangha was established to nurture Marathi language and Literature, in Mumbai and its outskirts.

1947, Indian assembly accented the national flag

On, July 21, 1947, the tricolor flag as a National flag was accepted by the Indian Constitution Assembly.

The flag has  3 equal horizontal bands of Saffron, White, and Green color, and a Chakra is imposed on the white with 24 Spokes in it. The ratio between the length and width of the flag is 2:3.

1963, Recognition of Kashi Vidyapeeth university

On, July 1963, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth was given recognition by the UGC.

2000, Special funds of population project

On July 21, 2000, the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, announced a special fund for population projects for the Planning Commission, providing money of Rs. 100 crores. He announced it when he was addressing the maiden meeting of the National Population Commission.

1664, Matthew Prior

On July 21, 1664, Matthew Prior was born in London. He was an English poet and diplomat. 

1710, Paul Mohring

 

On July 21, 1710, Paul Mohring was born in Denver, Germany. He was a physician and scientist.

1880, Milan Rastislav Stefanik

On July 1880 Milan Rastislav Stefanik was born. He was a Slovak Diplomat, Politician, Astronomer, and pilot. During World War I, he served as general in the French Army and minister of war for Czechoslovakia.

1893, Hans Fallada 

On July 21, 1893, Hans Fallada was born in Greifswald. He was a German writer.

1899, Ernest Hemingway

On July 21, 1899, Ernest Miller Hemingway was born in Oak Park Illinois. He was an American Novelist, Journalist, Writer, and Sportsman.

Births – Indian

1891, Jairamdas Daulatram

On, July 21, 1891, Jairamdas Daulatram was born. He was a Lawyer and Politician. After the Independence of India, He served as the Governor of the Indian states, Bihar and then Assam.

1911, Umashankar Jethalal Joshi

On July 21, 1911, Umashankar Jethalal Joshi was born in Bamna, Gujarat, India. He was an Indian scholar, writer, and poet. He was widely known for his contribution to the Gujarati literature.

1930, Anand Bakshi

On July 21, 1930, Anand Bakshi was born in Rawalpindi, Punjab (now in Pakistan). He was a well-known Indian poet and lyricist.

1947, Chetan Chauhan

On July 21, 1947, Chetan Chauhan was born in Bareilly, UP, India. He is a retired cricketer who played 40 Test matches for India.

1959, Dharam Singh Uppal

On July 21, 1959, Dharam Singh Uppal was born in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He was an Indian international track and field athlete and a Superintendent of Police in Punjab. He has represented India in Asian games and SAF games. Because of a major accident, he could not continue with his sports, and then he joined Punjab Police.
