This year, several summits took place and India was a part of several significant submits

Here is the list of the most important Submits and Conferences with their key takings –

1. G7 Summit 2019-09-07

The G7 concluded on 26th August 2019 at Biarritz, France. Member Nations of the G7 are-

· France

· Italy

· Japan

· Germany

· Canada

· United States

· United Kingdom

This year, India was a special member of the G7 Summit and hence, Narendra Modi had a special appearance in the summit.

2.Narendra Modi’s visit to Bahrain

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, went on a two-day visit to Bahrain on 24th August. It was the first time when any Indian Prime Minister went on meeting with gulf nation, Bahrain. Key takings of the meeting were:

a. 3 MOU’s were signed between India and Bahrain titled –

b. The first agreement was the Statement of Intent on collaboration between ISRO and National Space Science Agency in the area of Space Technology. This was signed between ISRO from the Indian side and Ministry of Transportation & Telecommunications on the French side.

c  The second agreement is a Statement of Intent on the collaboration of the Kingdom of Bahrain with International Solar Alliance (ISA) signed between Ministry of New and Renewable Energy/ ISA and Abdul Rahman Mohamed AlGaoud, Ambassador of Bahrain in New Delhi. 

d   The third and the last agreement was on the Cultural Exchange Programme between India and Bahrain that was between the Indian Ministry of Culture and AbdulRahman Mohamed AlGaoud, Ambassador of Bahrain in New Delhi

3..India’s meet with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi

On 23 August, PM met the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meet was to discuss upon bilateral, regional and international matters of mutual interest. 

Highlights:

1. PM predicted that UAE would have a key role in helping India reach a $5 trillion economy by the year 2025, through a “mutually-beneficial partnership”.

2. PM received the highest honor for UAE, Order of Zayed.

3. PM discussed how renewable energy, food, ports, airports, defence and manufacturing can play an important role in reaching their targets.

4. Both countries will work vigorously to implement the commitments of US$75 billion investment by the UAE in India

4.Modi’s visit to France

PM Mr Narendra Modi, visited France at the invitation of the President of the French Republic, Mr Emmanuel Macron on 22 August 2019.

Key Highlights

1. The first agreement signed between two nations was on Administrative arrangement for cooperation in skill development and vocational training. It is signed between Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (India) and Ministry of National Education and Youth(France).

2. Second MOU signed was a Cooperation agreement for cooperation in the fields of quantum computing, Artificial Intelligence and exascale supercomputing. This was between Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) (India) and ATOS, French multinational information technology (IT) service and consulting company (France).

3. The third agreement was on implementing an arrangement for Joint Maritime Domain Awareness between ISRO and CNES France.

5.Modi’s visit to Bhutan

Modi visited Bhutan on August 17-18 2019.

Tshering said,”Bhutan is an underdeveloped country, we wished to have it (space technology) many years back but because of economic reasons, we could not do it. Now with the help of the Indian government, with the help of ISRO, and SAARC satellite activities are going on.” The countries also talked about encouraging tourism and collaborating for development.

6. PM in Colombo


Prime minister, Modi visited Sri Lanka on 9th June 2019. He had a session with Presiden of SriLanka, Maithripala Sirisena. His visit made him the first foreign leader to visit the island nation after the Easter bombing. This bombing killed 250 people including 11 Indians.

This visit was basically to present support to the neighbouring island nation. It was to provide solidarity and confidence to Sri Lanka and its government for overcoming the tragedy

7.  India Japan Annual Summit

PM Modi had a visit to Japan ON 28th and 29th OctoberHe attended India Japan Annual Summit. It was a 2+2 ministerial meeting. The meeting was between PM Modi and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe. 

The summit took a discussion on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) among 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its six partners — India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

PM Modi had a visit to Japan ON 28th and 29th October. He attended India Japan Annual Summit. It was a 2+2 ministerial meeting. The meeting was between PM Modi and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe.

8.  PM’s Visit to South Korea

The visit to South Korea on 22 February 2019 was the second visit of India to Korea after 2015. It was after the invite of South Korean President Moon Jae-in. The countries talked about including trade and investment. 

 PM also discussed programs like ‘Make in India’, Start-Up India’ and ‘Clean India’ etc. They shared values for peace and global engagements.

Prime Minister Modi has been working enormously to improve foreign relations. His tally of visits is greatly contributing to strengthening the position of the country internationally.
