The Padma Awards is one of the highest civilian awards in India. It is announced on the day before the Republic Day every year. It is given in three categories-
Padma Vibhushan- for exceptional and distinguished service
Padma Bhushan- for distinguished service of high order
Padma Shri- for distinguished service in any field.
The awards were announced for the first time in year 1954. They have been announced ever since, with exceptions of the years 1978, 1979 and 1993 to 1997.

o Medicine
o Literature & Education
o Civil Service
o Sports
o Others (Spirituality, Indian Culture, protection of Human Rights, Wild Life protection/conservation etc.)

- Nandalal Bose
- Zakir Husain
- Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher
- V. K. Krishna Menon
- Jigme Dorji Wangchuck
