1820 – Birth Anniversary of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar

Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was born 26th September 1820 in Birsingha village of Midnapore district. He was an Indian educator and social reformer considered the father of Bengali prose. He had always challenged the Hindu orthodoxy by supporting the education of girls and also took a stand against child marriage. He had worked for many social reforms in society including the Hindu’s Widows remarriage Act 1856.

1932 – Birth Anniversary of Dr. Manmohan Singh

Manmohan Singh is an Indian economist, academic, and politician who served as the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. The first Sikh in office, he was also the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term.

1898 –  Death Anniversary of Hemant Kumar

Hemanta Mukhopadhyay also is known as Hemant Kumar was an Indian singer and music director. He has contributed his interest by singing in Bengali, Hindi, and other Indian languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Odia, Assamese, Tamil, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Konkani, Sanskrit, and Urdu. Professionally, he was an Indian Bengali Singer and awarded with Filmfare award for best music director and many more.

1977 – Death Anniversary of Uday Shankar

Uday Shankar was an Indian dancer and choreographer and was born on 18 December 1900 in Udaipur. He was best known for creating a fusion style of dance, adapting European theatrical techniques to Indian classical dance, imbued with elements of Indian. He also explored classical and folk dance and created dance dramas with the help of his brother Ravi Shankar (satirist). He finally left his legacy on September 26, 1977.

1960 – First TV Debate of Presidential Candidates

 (President John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon)

On 26th September 1960 the first time in U.S. history, a debate between major party presidential candidates was shown on television. The presidential hopefuls, John F. Kennedy, a Democratic senator of Massachusetts, and Richard M. Nixon, the vice president of the United States, met in a Chicago studio to discuss U.S. domestic matters. It was the first debate which was shown on television and almost 7 Crores people have watched it.

1973 – First flight of Concorde Supersonic Airlines 

On September 26, 1973, an Air France Concorde flew from Washington, DC, to Paris marking the first nonstop supersonic flight by the Anglo-French airliner. A few years later, Air France and British Airways put the cutting-edge jet into service making daily flights from Europe to the US.
