1751- Arcot occupied

On August 31, 1751, English troops under Sir Robert Clive occupied Arcot, India.

1778 – Indian massive killing

On August 31, 1778, the British killed 17 Stockbridge Indians in The Bronx during Revolution.

1995 – Beant Singh, CM of Punjab killed

On August 31, 1995, In India blast, a bomb killed 18 people, including Beant Singh, chief minister of the northern state of Punjab. Singh had become the chief minister of Punjab, home to most Indian Sikhs, in 1992, and began crushing a Sikh militant movement that sought a separate homeland.

2006 – Bihar Floods

On August 31, 2006, in eastern India, at least 30 people drowned when a crowded boat capsized in the rain-swollen Ganges River in the state of Bihar.
