Born on June 17, 1887, in Jaora, Madhya Pradesh kailash Nath Katju, was a freedom fighter and a famous politician in India. He has served as the Chief Minister Odisha as well as he was the Governor of Odisha. He also had key roles as the Union Home Minister and the Union Defence Minister.

Politician Bhagat Singh Koshyari  born

Born on June 17, 1942, Bhagat Singh Koshyari is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Uttarakhand and is currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra.

1631 Mumtaz Mahal Dies of Childbirth

On June 17, 1631, Mumtaz Mahal emperor Shah-i-Jahan I wife died during childbirth. His demise shocked the emperor and he spent 20 years of his life constructing the Taj Mahal in his memory.

1775 Battle of Bunker Hills

On June 17, 1775, British General Thomas Gage carried his troops on the Charlestown Peninsula and led them against Breed’s Hill, a fortified American position just below Bunker Hill. The British won the Battle of Bunker Hills and Charlestown Peninsula came into the control of the British.

1885 Statue of Liberty reached New York Harbor

 On June 17, 1885, the dismantled Statue of Liberty reached the New York port sent by the people of France as a token of gift to the people of America. The Statue was divided into 300 pieces packed into 200 boxes. It was made by  Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor.

1953 anti-government riots in Berlin crushed by the Soviet

On June 17, 1953, an entire division of armored troops were sent to Berlin by the Soviet Union to crush a rebellion by East German workers and anti-government protesters.
