1932 – Establishment of Indian Air Force

The Indian Armed Force (IAF) is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. Its supplement of staff and airplane resources positions fourth among the flying corps of the world. Its essential mission is to make sure about Indian airspace and to lead aerial fighting during armed clashes. It was officially established on 8 October 1932, as a helper flying corps of the British Empire which regarded India’s aviation administration during World War II with the prefix Royal.

1979 –  Death Anniversary of Jayprakash Narayan

Jayaprakash Narayan (11 October 1902 – 8 October 1979), famously known as Lok Nayak was an Indian freedom activist, social and political pioneer. He is also called the “Legend of Quit India Movement” and associated with driving the mid-1970s resistance against Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, for whose topple he had required a “Total Revolution”. In 1999, he was after death granted the Bharat Ratna in acknowledgment of his social work. Other honors include the Magsaysay award for Public Service in 1965.

1936 – Death Anniversary of Munshi Premchand

Dhanpat Rai Srivastava (31 July 1880 – 8 October 1936), usually known as Munshi Premchand, was an Indian author celebrated for his cutting edge Hindustani writing. He is one of the most celebrated scholars of the Indian subcontinent and is viewed as one of the chief Hindi journalists of the mid 20th century. His well-known works incorporate Godaan, Karmabhoomi, Gaban, Mansarovar, Idgah. He distributed his first collection of five short stories in 1907 out of a book called Soz-e Watan and titled as ‘Upanyas Samrat’.

1996 – Birth Anniversary of Actor Raaj Kumar

Raaj Kumar (8 October 1926 – 3 July 1996) was an Indian film actor. He worked as a sub-inspector of Mumbai Police in the late 1940s before he turned to act with the 1952 Hindi film Rangeli. He appeared in the Oscar-nominated 1957 film Mother India and went on to star in over 70 Hindi films in a career that spanned over four decades. Raaj Kumar died at the age of 69 due to throat cancer.

2004 –  Wangari Maathai got the Nobel Peace Prize 

Wangari Maathai was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize on 8 October 2004. The campaign encouraged women to plant trees in their local environments and to think ecologically. She contributed to the so-called Green Belt Movement spread to other African countries, and to the planting of over thirty million trees. She was soon appointed assistant minister of environment, natural resources, and wildlife for contribution to sustainable development.
