1857 Mangal Panday executed

On this day the great Indian freedom fighter Mangal Panday was executed by the British Colonial government. Pandey was born in a town near Faizabad, what is now eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Allu Arjun Birthday: Telugu singer and actor Arjun’s was born on this day in Chennai Tamil Nadu. His role in Arya was his breakthrough made him win first Film Fare bets Telugu actor.

Nithya Menon: Actress and playback singer Nithya Menon was born in Bangalore, Karnataka. Menon made her debut in 1998 in an English movie ‘The Monkey who Knew Too Much’ as a child actress. So far, she has received three Film Fare awards for Telugu films.

563 Birth of Gautam Buddha

Buddhists commemorate the birth of Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Gautam Buddha was born as Prince Siddhartha. The king of the people of Sakya. The kingdom was situated on the border of present-day Nepal.

1904 Entente Cordiale signed between Britain and France

Britain and France signed an agreement, later known as Entente Cordiale. The agreement was signed to resolve the long-pending colonial dispute in North Africa and establishing a diplomatic understanding between the two countries. In this agreement, France promised not to challenge British control over Egypt. This agreement was the beginning of the Alliance between two powerful nations.

1935 Emergency Relief Appropriate Act

President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized almost $5million to implement a work relief program. The move was made to lift the country out of the great depression, Congress allowed the President to use the funds at his discretion.

1953 Jomo Kenyata jailed for Kenya uprisings

The leader of the Kenyan Independence movement is convicted by Kenya’s British rulers of leading the extremist Mau Mau group against the white settlers and the colonial government. He was one of the great supporters of Kenyan and African Culture.

1944 Russians attack Germans

Russian forces attacked Germany in an attempt to win back Crimea, in south Ukraine. The attack resulted in the breaking of the German defensive line and sending Germans retreating.

2009 Somali Pirates hijacked Alabama Ship

No ship under American flag had been captured since 1820 till 8 April 2009. When the MV Maersk Alabama was hijacked off the coast of Somalia. This incident drew world attention towards the problem of piracy.
