On August 11, 1772, a volcanic explosive eruption blew 4,000 feet off Papandayan, Java, and 3,000 people were killed.
1807, Shipwreck in Alaska
On August 11, 1807, The Eclipse, a Yankee fur trading vessel, sank in the Shumagin Islands, south of the Alaska Peninsula. It is the oldest American shipwreck of Alaska and as of 2007.
