1800 Library of Congress established

President John Adam approves $ 5,000 to purchase such books which may be necessary for the use of Congress. Hence, the library of Congress got established. The first batch of books ordered from England arrived in 1801.

1863 Union issues conduct code for soldiers

The Union army issues general orders which provide code conduct for Federal soldiers and officers while dealing with Confederate prisoners and civilians.

1916 Easter Rebellion Begins

On April 24, 1916, on Easter Monday in Dublin, an Irish republican Brotherhood, a secret organization of Irish Nationalists headed by Patrick Pearse launched the Easter Rebellion an armed insurrection against the British rule.

1980  A rescue attempt of the U.S. hostages held in Iran failed when a plane collides with a helicopter in the Iranian desert.

1989 Thousands of Chinese students strike in Beijing for more democratic reforms.

1953 Churchill Knighted

On April 24, 1953, Winston Leonardo Spencer Churchill, the famous British ruled who guided Britain and Allied forces through the crisis of World War II, was Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

1967 Soviet Cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov died

On April 24, 1967, Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir died when his parachute failed to deploy during his spacecraft landing.
