BPSC: How to prepare and make your studies effective?

BPSC: Bihar Public Service Commission was set up by the constitution of India to recruit candidates for civil posts for the government of Bihar. It was set up in the year 1949 and was operating from Ranchi, later it was shifted to Patna.

Like UPSC, BPSC is also a three-tier process exam. Consisting of Preliminary, Mains and Interview.

Here we will give you all the information regarding the exam pattern, eligibility and tips to prepare for BPSC.

Eligibility to appear in BPSC

As the is conducted to fill posts for 20 different services the eligibility criteria are updated from time to time which can be checked on the official website of BPSC.

However, there are certain sections that can explain the eligibility criteria for the students.

Nationality

All citizens of India are eligible to apply. There is no restriction on the domicile of a candidate. Candidates from any state can apply.

Qualification

Candidate must have a bachelors degree in any discipline or equivalent degree from a government recognized institution. Whatever qualification they enter in the application form should match their documents or else they will be disqualified easily.

However, some posts demand a certain level of educational qualification. The listed qualification for different posts are as below;

1. The Police department of state of Bihar requires qualification of Graduation in any stream

2. Social Security services of the state of Bihar also requires Graduation in any stream

3. The Finance department of state of Bihar candidate must have Graduation in any stream

4. T of state of Bihar requires a Graduation in computer science or allied fields

5. Cooperative department of state of Bihar candidate with Graduation in any stream is eligible

6. Planning services of the state of Bihar for these posts a candidate with Graduation in Arts / Science stream is eligible

7.  The Administrative department of state of Bihar for these posts a candidate must have a Graduation in any stream

Age Limit

The age limit different for different posts. Also, for the reserved section of the society there is a relaxation in the age limit. The minimum age limit for most of the posts is 22 years.

For the maximum age limit, you can check the official website of the BPSC. Also, the number of attempts varies for different categories of the society. For SC/ST there is no bar on attempts, OBC people can appear 9 times in BPSC exams and for the reserved sections of people they can make 6 attempts.

The BPSC exam pattern goes the same as to UPSC exams. It has three phases Preliminary, Mains and Interview.

Preliminary Exams

The prelims are conducted for 150 exams and is an objective type. Preliminary are only for the qualifying nature and are not calculated in the final calculation of marks. The paper is to be completed in 2 hours.

Mains

This exam is conducted for 900 marks. The first paper will be compulsory Hindi language paper, which is conducted for 100 marks, but since this paper is also a qualifying paper, marks aren’t taken into consideration. The next two papers are the general studies- 1 and general studies-2 papers. Each paper carries 300 marks. The last paper in this exam is the optional subject paper which again is for 300 marks. There is a total of 34 optional subjects to choose from.

Interview

An interview is conducted for 120 marks. Candidates who qualify in the mains, an interview will be called in for this round off personality test. A panel of interviewers will question the candidates on an array of subjects and test their knowledge on various parameters, including the innate abilities of the candidate, personality traits, social and cultural awareness, etc.

The decision of the judges will be final for this round.

Based on marks allocation in the interview and total marks, from the mains exam, the aggregate of each student is calculated, and the final rank list is prepared based on the merit order.

Tips to prepare

As it is understandable that these exams are very tough and to crack such exams, one has to be good preparation. Here are some of the tips to follow so, preparations become easy.

Manage your time: Make a Schedule, weekly, or monthly, and decide your lesson plans and strategies for your studies.

Newspapers reading: Make a habit of newspaper reading select at least two national and reading them daily basic. It will keep you up to date regarding the current affairs and important events happening globally.

Subject Selection: Select the subject you are good at. Choose only those subjects that you have read during your graduation or any other course you have pursued. This will help you to save a lot of time and get good command over the subject.

Syllabus: Check your syllabus thoroughly and stick to it. It will help you to be focused on your plan.
