Guru Amar Singh the third Guru of Sikhism

Guru Amar Singh was born on May 5, 1479, in Amritsar, Punjab. He is the third of ten Gurus of Sikhism. He compiles hymns into Pothki (Book) which ultimately helped to create Adi Granth.

Narinder Nath Vohra  

Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir N.N Vohra was born on May 5, 1936, in Punjab. After Jagmohan, he was the first civilian governor in eighteen years.

1821 Napoleon dies in exile

Former French ruler Napoleon Bonaparte, who once ruled an empire stretched across Europe. Dies in exile. He dies as a British prisoner on the remote island of Saint Helena, in the South Atlantic. Napoleon was one of the greatest military strategist history has ever seen.

1862 Mexican army defeats French

On May 5, 1862, an outnumbered Mexican army defeats French force at Puebla. French army retreat from the battle of Puebla marked a great moral victory for the people of Mexico.

1919 Italian delegate return to Paris peace conference

Italian delegation­­ headed by Prime Minister Vittorio Orlando and Foreign Minister Sidney Sonnino returns to the Versailles peace Conference in Paris.

1955 occupation of West Germany ends

The Federal Republic of Germany claimed sovereignty after the Allies, the USA, France and Britain call off their military occupation. The military occupation of West Germany had begun in 1945 and ended on May 5, 1955.

1969 Norman Mailer awarded Pulitzer

Norman Mailer was honored with Pulitzer price for his nonfiction novel ‘Armies of the Night’. The novel was about the 1967 anti-Vietnam War.
